This Time in Osaka, Japan
We are delighted to share the next chapter of a story that began over two decades ago, in 1998, with the opening of Cafe Jubilee. What started as a single venture has blossomed into a diverse family of businesses spanning Gozo and Malta, each one a testament to our commitment to hospitality, innovation, and community.

In 2010, we took our first leap onto the global stage, representing Cafe Jubilee at the World Expo in Shanghai. There, at the Malta pavilion, we welcomed thousands of visitors, sharing the warmth of Maltese culture and our passion for bringing people together. Now, fifteen years later, we are honored to embark on another World Expo journey—this time in the bustling, vibrant city of Osaka, Japan. This endeavor reflects the international spirit that has always been at the heart of our group. We take pride in fostering inclusivity, employing individuals from all walks of life, and weaving the richness of global experiences into everything we do. Our AYU in Gzira is a living example of this ethos, a place where cultures converge and traditions are celebrated.

The World Expo, a gathering of nations held every five years, is a celebration of innovation, culture, and shared humanity. This year, the Maltese pavilion will showcase a truly extraordinary artifact: a piece of Samurai armor, a historical treasure gifted to Malta in 1821 by Japanese explorers. Meticulously restored in Kyoto by the descendants of the original craftsmen, this piece stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring connection between Malta and Japan.

To accompany Malta’s exhibits, we are crafting a unique culinary experience for our Maltese restaurant at the Expo. Our menu will marry the comforting flavors of traditional Maltese cuisine with subtle Japanese influences. Our offerings range from pastizzi alongside hearty stews and other traditional Maltese dishes, all served in a setting that seamlessly blends tradition with modern innovation.

As we prepare for the Expo’s opening in April—running through October—we are working closely with a talented team of Japanese and Maltese collaborators, including students from the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS). Together, we aim to bring an authentic taste of Malta to the heart of Kansai Osaka, creating a dining experience that feels both far from home and deeply familiar.

This journey is about more than food or exhibitions; it’s about connection, discovery, and the joy of sharing our story with the world. We invite you to follow along as we count down to this exciting adventure. Stay tuned for more updates—we can’t wait to share this experience with you!
